Finland has become a Heat Pump Superpower. 1,5 million HPs sold. They produce 14 TWh/a, 16 % of the heating of Finland (80 TWh/a). This according to the Finland’s Country report to IEA
To do list for heat pumps:
- De-electrify our electric heating with HPs (still about 20 TWh/a)
- Get rid of our oil heating with HPs (100.000 oil burners)
- On the long run get rid of burning biomass in District Heating with HPs
=>duplicate heat production with HPs by 2030 and triplicate by 2040
